Baddha Konasana is a pose that is carried out sitting.
It acts mainly on the level of the legs and the pelvic area. Baddha konasana, cobbler pose or even the bound angle pose is useful to relax and stretch the muscles of the inner thigh stretch and lengthen the area of the groin and develop the flexibility in hips, knees and ankles.
It is a position often recommended for meditation, because it allows a correct alignment of the spine and facilitates breathing.
In sanskrit Baddha konasana means “Bound angle position”, but is translated as “Cobbler pose” because the posture looks very much like the typical way of sitting of the Indian cobblers when working.
HOW TO CARRY OUT BADDHA KONASANA
- Sit on the ground in a comfortable position, keeping your back straight and neck aligned.
- Bend the knees and hinge them, making the soles of your feet touch.
- Grab your feet or ankles with your hands and folded further as much as possible towards the pelvis.
- Exhaling, try to bring a little more your knees to the ground, without straining too much your muscles and ligaments.
- Relax your arms and shoulders trying to move them as far apart as possible from the ears.
- Breath slowly and remain in the position for not less than two minutes, it is a comfortable pose, therefore concentrate more on your breathing.
- To exit from the position, slowly stretch your legs in front of you and place your hands on the ground close to the pelvis.
