It is now reknowned that eating in a healthy way is indispensable to keep well & prevent many disorders.  Even our liver needs to be fed in a healthy way in order to work correctly & not be overloaded;  therefore it is advisable to consume large quantities of fruit, vegetables & cereals, and to reduce as much as possible or avoid eating fried foods, that are very harmful for our organism.

The function & importance of our liver

Our liver is a store for minerals such as Iron, nutrients such as Glycogen & vitamins like B12.  It is considered a restless & fundamental organ for our health & it is also very active on the immune level & for detoxificating processes.  It is also responsible for the energy distribution and in order to function correctly it needs to be “powered” appropriately; Infact if it has an excessive quantity of toxins to be removed, the unremoved toxins due to purifying capacity saturation, return into our blood flow, causing serious damage in many cases.  This explains why an unhealthy diet could lead to incorrect functioning of our liver, preventing our organism from detoxifying.  On the other hand a healthy, balanced diet rich in anti-oxidants, helps remove toxic substances in our organism such as; alcohol, medicines, but also dioxin, pesticide, dead cells, cafffein & metabolic residues & pathogens.

Reccomended foods & avoidable foods

With regards to the reccomended foods which are helpful in purifying our liver we find first of all Whole Grains, Fruit & vegetables rich in Selenium, Vitamin A, vitamin C & vitamin E.  In order to expel the products considered as waste the cells found inside our liver need aminoacids containing sulphur like Taurine & cysteine.  For these reasons it is very important to consume, eggs, onions, garlic, leeks, pumpkin, cauliflower, broccoli, brussels sprouts and other natural products rich in Sulphur.  Even products like artichokes, mustard, romaine lettuce, dandelion & milk thistle are very useful for purifying our liver.  Another valid help comes from products rich in Glutathione such as; watermelon & asparagus.  Also fibre & probiotics found in yoghurt are very useful.  But a diet that is aimed for purifying our liver,  includes a large consumption of water, meaning at least 2 litres per day, to help our kidneys remove toxins from fish which is rich omega 3 & has a great anti-inflammatory power.  With regards to the avoidable foods we find in first place, processed meats, cold cuts, sausages, bacon, fried food & salty snacks.  We should also avoid alcohol, preserved (canned) meat & coffee.
