Alternative uses for salt!

Salt in the kitchen is ideal for multiple uses and not only to add taste, moreover in food we must reduce it as much as possible because it can also be harmfu; hence let us look at the alternative uses for salt!

  • CHASING ANTS

Table salt is an excellent remedy for removing the invasion of ants from our houses and gardens. Just sprinkle a little salt in the concerned areas or Mix salt and water in a ratio of 1:4 and spray it in the most critical points.

  • MILDEW ON THE SHOWER CURTAINS

Shower curtains are among the most dirty things we can have due to the deposits of germs and bacteria that in time lead to mold.  Simply wash the curtains just purchased with salt and they will never get mold.

  • MOSQUITO BITES

The bites of mosquitoes cause burning and itching and table salt is an excellent remedy to relieve the pain caused by mosquitoes and insects in general.  Just apply a small amount of salt on the area affected by the bite and gently massage (not to irritate the skin).

  • SMELLY SHOES

To remove unpleasant odours from shoes simply insert canvas bags with a handful of table salt.  Alternatively you can also sprinkle a little salt and water inside the shoes and leave to act for a few hours.

  • COPPER ITEMS

To bring the shine back on all your copper items just make a compound mixture and apply it directly on to the objects.  The compound can be done with a mixture of salt, flour, vinegar and lemon juice and rubbed onto the items.  The copper is now as good as new.

  • OIL SPLASHES

To avoid oil from splashing and unpleasant burns whilst frying just sprinkle a little table salt in the pan before adding fish, meat and chips.

  • NATURAL FRAGRANCE

You can make a completely natural air freshener for the house!  Take 1 cup of salt with 15 drops of you preferred essential oil or rose petals.  Put the mixture into a bowl and next to it place half an orange peel. Your home will have a delicate scent of freshness.

  • AVOID FROST ON WINDOWS

The frost and ice during the winter days tend to make glass windows frost.  We have two ways to avoid those annoying halos:

– Pass a sponge soaked in water and salt on the glass
– Place a bag full of salt on the window sill

  • PAINT FOR CHILDREN

With salt you can prepare an all natural homemade paint for children.  Just mix 1 cup of flour, 1 cup of table salt, 1 cup of water and some food coloring.  Your children will love it.
