It is a terrible disease that affects millions of people and only in South America counts a new infected person every hour, and unfortunately the situation in Europe is not of the least. Although nowadays it controlled better, aids continues to reap victims and the crap said around by a few critics, certainly does not help, it is not a disease for only gay nor can it be transmitted only by homosexual persons and it is good to learn more because nobody is immune.
WHAT DOES AIDS MEAN
Aids or Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome is a disease of the human immune system caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). This type of disease interferes with the immune system by limiting the effectiveness, therefore the people affected are more susceptible to infections and the development of tumors. This vulnerability increases with the progression of the disease and may even lead to death.
HIV is transmitted in many ways, for example through unprotected sexual relations, contaminated blood transfusion and hypodermic needles and through vertical transmission between mother and child during pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding. Often HIV and AIDS, hence virus and disease are indicated together or interchanged however, always indicating the same thing, today the widespread is considered a real pandemic and no state is immune to it at the moment.
HOW IS AIDS TREATED
Currently some treatments exist but also if these treatments can slow down or stop the course of the disease, there is no known cure or vaccine against HIV. The treatment that is done i.e. the antiretroviral treatment reduces both the dead and the new infections, but these drugs are expensive and are not available in all countries and unfortunately only in 2009 we can count 14 million deaths by HIV JUST IN AFRICA ALONE. Precisely because of the difficulty, prevention is the only possible objective for the control of AIDS.
HOW IS THE VIRUS TRANSMITTED
The virus as we have already said is transmitted in various ways, lets see which they are:
- Unprotected sexual intercourse
- Contaminated blood transfusion
- Childbirth
- Breastfeeding
- And in a vertical manner during pregnancy from mother to child
SEXUAL TRANSMISSIONN
Even if some good timer wishes to denounce the gay community and make it the scapegoat of this huge plague, in reality AIDS/HIV is transmissible to anyone by anyone, nobody is an exception. As we have previously said there are various ways of contagion but today the majority of new infections of the HIV virus is through sexual intercourse, unprotected penetration, both heterosexual or homosexual, and the condom preventing contact between the potentially infected genital mucosae and secretions, is the only effective medical device at the moment, its correct use makes sex safe and prevents the contagion from all sexually transmitted diseases and therefore obviously also from the HIV virus.
