HOW TO CARRY OUT AGNISTAMBHASANA
This position is very nice and interesting lets discover something more.
In sanskrit, Agni means “fire” stambha means “statue”. The translation therefore could be “Position of the statue of fire”, but it is commonly known with the name of the fire log pose.
HOW TO CARRY OUT AGNISTAMBHASANA
Lets see this position in detail.
- Start sitting in Dandasana. Put a pillow or a blanket folded under your buttocks to raise slightly your sides from the ground.
- Bring the right foot over the left knee and try to put the left foot under the right knee. The calves are now positioned parallel one on top of the other. You should not feel any stress or pain in the knees and your ankles remain external from the knees.
- Keep Both ankles flexed and calves parallel to the front edge of the mat.
- Inhale and stretch your back upwards. Keep the whole hip bone resting on the ground. Check that the lower part of the back is not curved.
- Put the hands or the tips of the fingers on the ground close to the sides.
- Trying to keep your back straight, bend forward the torso towards the legs. You can keep your hands on your legs or extend them in front of you on the floor. If you can try to touch the ground with your forehead. With every inhalation, the chest is raised slightly and the spine stretches forward. With each exhalation, bend more towards the front.
- At this point breathe normally. Keep the position until you can balance relaxation and effort.
- To exit from the position, straighten slowly your back and then a leg at a time and get back into Dandasana.
- Wait for a few seconds and then repeat by reversing the legs.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
This position is not suitable for those who have issues with their knees or a recent accident and if you are a beginner do not push but try to get a into the position a little bit at a time.
