Fight sinusitis with food!

Sinusitis could be beaten even at table, with a varied diet poor in dairy products!

Sinusitis is an inflammatory process that involves our nose & 1 or more paranasal sinuses, a recent study proved that 10% of the population in industrialised countries suffers from this disorder.  The sinuse are cavities that are part of our skull & linked to the nose, if in one of these cavities mucus is accumulated due to a virus, bacteria, influenza etc, breathing becomes difficult & the classic symptoms of chronic sinusitis appear.

HOW IS IT MANIFESTED

The classical cold symptoms are also the first symptoms of sinusities, hence blocked nose & excessive mucus, leading to constant pain on our forehead, eye areas & jaws.  Often our nose leaks too, furthermore we could also sometimes encounter; cough, fever, ear pain & even bad breath.

CAUSES

The causes of sinusitis could be various, we start from a complication in our cold even of allergic type, and head to other types of situations such as:

  • dental infections
  • swimming
  • diving
  • deviation of the nasal septum
  • polyps
  • environmental factors like pollution, air conditioning & smoke.

Chronic sinusities repeats itself about three times a year.

To contrast the symptoms of sinusitis, especially during season (climate) change, & to free our nose & sinuses from mucus & inflammation it is important to start curing at table, by avoiding certain foods amongst which:

  • milk & dairy products (with the only exception to yogurt with ferments & probiotics)
  • Cereals containing gluten
  • red meat
  • saturated fats

The following foods are recommended & help keep our bowel clean & not accumulate catarrh:

  • CHICKPEAS
  • GINGER
  • APPLE CIDER VINEGAR
  • CARCADE
  • CELERY
  • ZUCCHINI

To reduce the symptoms of sinusitis & reduce notably, seriousness & duration we could use zinc, according to some studies assuming about 75mg of zinc the first day & reducing to 15-20mg per day for a week, manages to reduce by half the duration of the cold; moreover 1g of vitamin C enriched with echinacea a day for 1 week helps reduce the intensity of the symptoms.

WHY MUST WE AVOID MILK & DAIRY PRODUCTS?

Milk & cheese contain casein, a protein that is used to thicken (especially in industrial production), this tends to form a gelatinous mass that becomes very difficult to digest when it reaches our bowel, a daily consumption of this element could lead to damaging our intestinal flora, to a major production of histamine & formation of mucus.
