The artery saver diet that lowers blood pressure & cholesterol levels.  Keeping blood vessels, healthy, clean & elastic, help prevent heart diesease & brain misfunction.

Our daily eating habits could be very harmful for our health, promoting the formation of atherosclerotic plaques caused by hypertension & high cholesterol levels, therefore it is fundamental to know how to eat in a healthy way.  First of all we must limit the consumption of red meat & sugars, opting for fish, whit meat & legumes instead.  We must than avoid food with a high content of salt &/or fat and instead increase the consumption of foods containing folic acid, that helps reduce the risk of heart diesease.

Arteries, veins & capillaries allow blood to arrive to all our organs & tissue in our body, to nourish them, clean them & defend them, but in order to do this they must be elastic, flexible & clean, that is with no fat or plaque accumulation present.  The blockage of an artery caused by an atherosclerotic plaque, could lead to an ischemia, tissue necrosis leading to death, which today is the main cause of death in Italy.

Food can do a lot:

GOOD OR ALLIED FOODS are: cereals, fish, lean white meat, eggs, legumes, soy (tofu & tempeh), fresh vegetables especially, artichokes, fennel, broccoli, cauliflower, savoy cabbage; fruit (2-3 fruits a day) in particular, apples, pears, kiwi & citrus fruits; green tea, barley coffee, half a glass of red wine during meals.

ENEMIES are refined cereals, salty foods especially cold cuts & smoked cuts, fat foods like red meat, cheese & sweets, food with high sugar concentrations like, soft drinks, fast food products, fried foods, alcohol with an exception to wine.

Furthermore dark chocolate not cooked & without any sugar added is an ideal product because its rich in antioxidants that protect heart & brain & help blood vessels function better.

Some foods are indispensable for keeping our arteries in shape & amongst these we find:

  • FENNEL; is a green vegetable rich in fibres that help absorb less fat, cholesterol & sugar.  It also has a DETOX function.
  • COD; this fish provides us with firts class proteins, & “good” fats such as omega 3 that protect our blood vessels.
  • AROMATIC HERBS; are ideal to contrast cholesterol accumultaion & purify our organism.
  • BROCCOLI; rich in folic acid, improves blood vessel functions.  They are also rich in vitamin C.
  • APPLES; are diuretic, detoxifying, poor in sodium but rich in potassium.
  • BARLEY COFFEE; it can be a substitute to coffee in hypertension cases, it has a diuretic action that is beneficial for the arteries.
  • RICE; if brown rice is consumed it is rich in fibres that purify our organism & contain folic acid.

Furthermore everyday we can eat a super healthy trio: Kiwi, oats & garlic.

Eating a kiwi for breakfast for example helps reduce the levels of homocysteine which if high increase notably the risk of heart attack & thrombosis.  This is possible because kiwi contains vitamin B9, the famous folic acid, that prevents fat from accumulating therefore lowering the levels of homocysteine.

Oats are a cereal rich in soluble fibres, in particular beta-glucans that reduce the absorption of fat, cholesterol & sugar also increasing the satiety feeling.

A wedge of garlic a day allows us to increase the level of HDL (good) cholesterol & reduce the LDL (bad) cholesterol level & also blood pressure.

This super healthy trio can be eaten daily together with other healthy habits like:

-wholemeal cereals

-fruit & vegetables at lunch & dinner

-drinking at least 8 glasses of water per day

-exercising on a regular basis even if moderate.
