Bad breath, often represents more than just a problem for who suffers from this disorder it can also influence negatively their interpersonal relationships. Bad breath is usually caused by a buildup of bacteria in the mouth that causes inflammation & lets out gases causing a bad smell. However bad breath may also be caused by other factors such as; alcohol, smoking, gastric problems or poor oral hygiene.
Fruit & herbs
The first simple method against bad breath is a correct oral hygiene, which does not consist only of brushing our teeth after meals but resolving the problem once & for all. We can find many herbs that can help us reduce this problem thanks to their disinfecting & antiseptic properties. Amongst many of the natural remedies we find; orange, lemon & mandarin, which can help reduce the bacteria quantity in our mouth. We than find eucalyptus, which contains peppermint whos active ingredient is menthol.
With regards to teas & infusions the ones that have Aniseed & fennel as a primary ingredient turned out be very useful not only for reducing bad breath but also for stabilizing digestion. Amongst the large variety of herbs useful to reduce or cure this problem we also find Rosemary & sage, which have a sort of bacteriostatic action, therefore apart from curing mouth inflammations they reduce bacteria & therefore improve oral hygiene. Caraway also known as Persian cumin is very useful if the problem is related to gastric or digestive problems. Even celery is a good remedy against bad breath, because since it has a large water content, it is a good disinfectant for the mouth. We could also consider supplements made from: cinnamon, corinder, thyme & Marjoram.
Food
The most efficient natural remedy against bad breath is saliva, which allows our mouth to be clean always. This is why it is not reccomended to consume foods that have high concentrations of tannine and/or salt, because they reduce the production of saliva in our mouth. Good care must be taken also of our diet & what we eat and at least consume between 4 to 5 portions of fruit & vegetables per day. On the other hand Garlic, onions, fish & red meat are not highly reccomended for who suffers from bad breath, but we must also keep in mind that the milk protein found in yoghurt, chhese & obviously milk attract a lot of bacteria & when metabolizing them let out bad odouring substances that cause bad breath.
