Herbs and roots

Althaea & its root extracts are often used for their protective & emollient qualities on the mucous membrane.  They have anti-inflammatory & anti-bacterial functions on our soft tissue, and so this makes this type of plant an appropriate solution against sore throat, especially if consumed as tea or infusion.  If you want to make it yourself you will need a spoonfull of chopped althaea root, mix in 250ml cold water & boil for a few minutes.  After letting it set for about 10 minutes filtering is possible whilst letting it cool down furthermore before consumption, this method is called decoction. Apple cider vinegar also has natural anti-bacterial properties & can be used in this case, in little quantities in a warm (not too hot) drink or with a normal glass of water, this will help relieve an inflamed throat.  Apple cider vinegar can also be used for gargling by mixing one teaspoonfull in a glass of water at room temperature or also inhaling by mixing 2 spoonfulls in a pot of boiling water. Savory is also a medical plant, its leaves are not only used for culinary purposes, but also for curing many discomforts, of which; sore throat.  We could prepare a savory infusion to gargle; we will need 4g dried leaves with every 100ml of water.  Amongst the natural remedies we find the Belladonna (deadly nightshade), one of the most common natural remedies used for curing acute tonsillitis & pharyngitis, were the tonsils are very inflamed with pain & burning during deglutition.  The Hedge mustard also known as the “singers’ herb” is very useful for symptons caused by sore throat for example temporary loss of voice.  The Belladonna & hedge mustard are usually used as tinctures.  With regards to the Belladonna it is advisable to consult a doctor since a prescription (recipe) is indispensable due to the plants
