Properties and benefits of capsicum: Sweet peppers are vegetables rich in healthy properties: they are very rich in vitamin C (antioxidant and anti-inflammatory substance) and luteolin, a polyphenol that protects the brain and memory activity.

They also have few calories (only 22 for every 100 grams) and, if eaten raw and ripe they can provide the body with vitamin A (which retains elastic fabrics), calcium, phosphorus and especially potassium, which stimulates diuresis and venous circulation especially in a period of strong heat that puts to the test everyone’s circulation.  Finally they are also rich in vitamin B6 and magnesium that reduce nervousness and improve the performance of the muscles.

SWEET PEPPERS ARE RICH IN VITAMIN C
Capsicum has a record for its concentration of vitamin C, almost four times higher than that of oranges based on the same amount of weight.  A portion of 50g raw sweet peppers contains more than 60 mg, i.e. 75% of the recommended daily allowance (RDA).

Capsicum are also very rich in provitamin A, which together with the vitamin C are the major antioxidants that dramatically improve our health, useful for preventing diseases such as premature ageing, cardiovascular diseases, degenerative processes and it seems even that according to some recent studies, it is useful for helping towards certain forms of cancer.

Capsicum properties and benefits for the legs
In summer our legs suffer greatly due to the circulation that slows down and therefore thee association of vitamin C and carotenoids typical of the sweet peppers reinforces and makes the blood vessels more elastic thus favouring the circulation and countering the typical swelling in the legs especially in Summer.  A recent study conducted by the University of Colorado, shows that the daily intake of vitamin C would give the blood circulation the same benefits as regular physical activity.
The sweet peppers are a real treasure for our gardens and the pepper genre includes thousands of varieties, including the hot chili peppers.

The sweet types of peppers are distinguished according to the basis of their colour (red, yellow or green) and the shape of the fruit: square or rectangular, but also long.

So far Italy has boasted numerous primates for growing peppers but unfortunately this trend has changed due to a gradual increase in the importation of vegetables coming mainly from Spain and the Netherlands but also from Turkey and Morocco; the most affected Italian regions by the faming are those with warmer climates such as Sicily, Puglia, Campania and Lazio.
