Psoriasis is an autoimmune chronical diesease typically characterized by red patches on the skin, causing it to become itchy & scaly. It is a type of dermatitis that can be genetical, but also caused through an unhealthy lifestyle. Many other factors also contribute in the worsening of this disorder such as; alcohol abuse, smoking, stress & infections. It is a very annoying disorder from which many suffer.
Natural gels & ointments
The redness caused by psoriasis can be soothed through natural remedies; we are obviously talking about Psoriasis that has not yet reached an acute stage, for which medication is necessary. The natural remedies used to sooth itching & redness are: gels, ointments, balms & lotions, created from specific natural substances which have epithelizing, anti-oxidant, antiseptic & anti-inflammatory properities. Amongst the most common products used for this disoreder we find Aloe vera gel, rich in polysaccharides which stimulate cell division & help epithelization, it also protects & has emollient effects. Aloe vera also contributes against skin dehydration, by reducing to the minimum the loss of water in our skin. Also in these cases Grapefruit seed extract is very useful, rich in ceramides (anti-inflammatory effect), & flavonoids, (anti-oxidant effect). Jojoba & macadamia oils also have emollient properties and are very useful fro preventing inflammation; thats why it is very good to rub lotions made from these oils on the parts of skin hit by psoriasis, also lotions containing Centella, burdock, zinc oxide, pineapple, salicyclic acid & squalene. Squalene, for example is a substance found also in olives, rice grain & wheat germ & has a skin regenerating function, stimulates metabolism & eudermic activity. On the other hand Centella, has the capability to stimulate blood circulation and therefore has also capillarotrope properties, whilst zinc oxide is ideal if the skin effected by psoriasis is very sore or damaged. Once again Pineapple contains a proteolytic enzyme, known as bromelin, that soothes inflammations.
Teas & drinks
Always talking about natural remedies, we should not underestimate the benefits found in teas & extracts; for example 20 drops of artichoke or dandelion extract help in a rapid toxin digestion. Also Pansy & burdock extracts are very useful against psoriasis. With regards to teas, the recommended ones are those containing, elderberry & birch which are very good for skin health. Also Sarsaparilla drink is very effective, but we recommend a tea made from walnut & Cedar of Lebanon, grind both elements & put a teasponnfull of each in a cup of warm water, after a few minutes filter it & drink cold.
