Heartburn what to eat and what to avoid?

Do you suffer frequently from Heartburn? Attention than to the food supply which plays a fundamental role and in fact there are foods to avoid and foods that instead can be eaten normally.

Where does heartburn come from

The causes for heartburn can be many and different as for example:

  •  Incorrect food supply,
  • Smoke,
  • Abuse of alcohol,
  • The assumption of drugs.

In any case, however, the first thing is to correct the food supply and diet by limiting the consumption of certain particularly acidic foods that that worsen the problem. In fact only a well balanced diet can help to reduce the incidents of heartburn and/or manage it better anyway. It is always better to consult a specialist but in the meantime we can note down a couple of things:

– When does the burning occur,

– What have we eaten

– What have we ingested

– How did we feel just before

A series of information that will be also useful to the specialist.

Let us now see with regards to the food supply and how can we correct it.

If you suffer from heartburn you must be careful towards some foods and in particular you must rely on the so-called alkaline foods that serve to neutralize the hydrochloric acid that is formed in excess, lets see the foods divided for their macronutrients:

CARBOHYDRATES: almost all types of carbohydrates can be consumed safely by always being careful to the amount and of course to dressings.

Pasta, bread (better if toasted), white and wholegrain rice, wholegrain cereals avoiding to dress them with tomato and with sauces or cheese.

By limiting crakers instead because they often contain large amounts of fats; the same applies for bakery products (brioches, muffins, pies, croissants, doughnuts);

NO red meat (slices of beef steak, minced beef, Boiled), in that they are provided with a greater acidity. NO also to cold cuts, canned foods .

Yes to white meats such as chicken, turkey, rabbit provided they are deprived of the fat part. Keep an eye on eggs that can be consumed in cooking that do not provide fats such as butter and lard; the egg white is more digestible and in these cases is the most recommended.

Among the dairy products only lean goat cheese and some low fat cheese can be eaten with tranquility.

To avoid absolutely all types of milk and yogurt, mozzarella, provola cheese (smoking worsens the situation), ice cream, pastry creams, cream and sour cream.

FATS: no certainly to oils and various fats that often hide in the packed preparations that we buy at the supermarket and in fact must absolutely be avoided; fries, chocolate of all types also in the form of creams, corn chips, butter cookies (also danish), mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, tuna fish sauce, butter, margarine, oils for frying.

As regards to the Lipids or fats precisely we can eat safely only EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL strictly consumed raw

A different speech should be done FOR FRUIT AND VEGETABLES AND DRINKS.

FRUIT AND VEGETABLES: although one should eat 5 servings per day to maintain a healthy and correct lifestyle both fruit and vegetables are often indicted because they are  naturally rich in natural acids and a high intrinsic acidity. Between the fruit and vegetables the only food considered totally safe for those suffering from heartburn are: the apple (dry, fresh and juice), the banana (intermediate maturation) and pear.

The following are absolutely to be avoided: the juice of lemon, orange and grapefruit, watermelon, peach, melon, grapes, berries, pineapple, mandarins, figs, persimmon (khaki), chestnuts, walnuts, almonds.

Amongst the vegetables that can be eaten we find: carrots, potatoes only boiled or cooked in the oven without added fats, beans, boiled cabbage, fennel.

The vegetables to be avoided are: lettuce, cucumber, peppers, onions, shallots, garlic, tomato (either raw or cooked);

With regards to drinks we from styleoga always insist in saying that there is nothing better than water for our organism but even more so in the case of heartburn, for which we must actually avoid spirits, beer, fruit juices, various centrifuges as well as carbonated drinks rich in sugars, carbon dioxide and caffeine;
