Nail & hair curing methods & how to protect them as time goes by!

Even our nails & hair age together with our skin & organism, but with the right food & supplements it is possible to keep them looking healthy & young for a much longer time.

To avoid our nails & hair from ageing prematurely, & look dull, very thin or sick, we must take good care of them in time & with an adeguate strategy combined to a correct lifestyle, healthy diet, proper hygiene & various treatments were possible.

A correct diet rich in nutrients & vitamins allows us to keep in good state even our nails & hair, therefore the following are necessary; protein, calcium, iron, vitamin B, omega 3 and others, but it is also necessary keeping under control cholesterol levels, if it is too high it could damage our hair & nails, because infact cholesterol is the base of the steroid hormones such as DHT, that attach hair follicles causing hair loss & baldness.

WHICH FOODS ARE MOST EFFECTIVE IN KEEPING HAIR & NAILS YOUNG & HEALTHY?

Amongst the most important substances we have calcium, available in yogurt, sesame seeds, parmiggiano, almonds, green leaf vegetables (cabbage, broccoli, spinach etc)

Also vitamins are necessary:

B (whole grains, brewer’s yeast, wheat germ) because they nourish hair & nails

A (eggs, betacarotene)

C (fruit & vegetables)

E (nuts & oilseeds, vegetable oils, brewer’s yeast, wheat germ)

Iron is also a fundamental element together with omega 3, zinc, protein & obviously all those foods that help produce keratin.

Amongst the most ideal & useful foods we find:

  • OLIVE OIL precious source of “good” fats & vitamin E ( 2-3 spoons a day raw as a meal dressing)
  • PARSLEY source of vitamin C, calcium & iron (to be used fresh)
  • MILLET  source of silicon, betacarotene & vitamin. B (ideal for soups, cakes or desserts)
  • SOY source of protein, phytoestrogens & vitamin B (tofu, tempeh or as a sauce)
  • SALMON  source of protein, iron, omega 3, vitamins A,B & E (best if cooked steamed)
  • CHICKEN  rich in first class proteins, iron & vitamin B (ideal with pepper, ginger & curry)
  • ONION  excellent source of sulphur & anti-oxidants (ideal either raw or cooked)
  • EGGS source of first class proteins, iron, sulphur & vitamin A (it is ideal to consume max 2 per week)

We can also help ourselves with natural supplements, one of which is borage oil, this is one of the best soft (non aggressive) treatments for hair & nails, if taken each day for a couple of weeks we could obtain stronger nails & brighter hair, this treatment may be repeated twice a year especially during the change of seasons & climate.  Borage oil can also be found in bottles or vials and can be used as a hair wrap by applying a few drops along our hair length, than wrapping it in a transparent film letting it set for 1 hour before rinsing our hair with a delicate product.  Right after this wrap our hair will be visibly brighter & healthier.  With regards to the nails this oil is good for the cuticles, just pour a drop on each nail & rub in delicately covering even the cuticles’ area.  Borage is also used in the kitchen as in the famous “Pansoti Liguri” (ravioli), but we must take care when using borage leaves since they contain toxic substances harmful to our liver.
