Natural remedies against heartburn!

There are natural remedies to relieve heartburn together with a healthy lifestyle, lets see which they are.

It is very common to suffer from heartburn, since there are many causes that are also different, such as for example:

  • Smoke
  • Pregnancy
  •  Incorrect food supply
  • Use of drugs FANS
  •  Chronic diseases

And moreover in each case it is an annoying problem that brings with it the symptoms that are not always easy to control.

In the case of burning due to food we can find out immediately: if the episodes are occasional it is likely that the causes of heartburn are due to particular foods that we have ingested such as alcohol, coffee, very spicy food, vegetables preserved in vinegar or in oil, chocolate but also cigarette smoke has a negative impact on the gastric secretion (so keeping a food diary can help us understand what it is)

If instead the attacks are much more frequent and always with/after the main meals, maybe characterized by episodes more or less painful then it could also be due to more serious pathologies such as gastric ulcer, duodenal ulcer, gastroesophageal reflux disease, hiatus hernia than you immediately need to seek a specialist.

BUT WHAT IS ACTUALLY HEARTBURN?

Let us begin by saying that the stomach is the organ entrusted to the first destruction of food. The reactions of destruction of food occur at an acidic pH which serves to separate the labile acid bonds (such as for example those of the proteins to obtain individual amino acids). The walls of the stomach are made out of cells and therefore of protein who in the absence of a large and thick layer of mucus which protects them would end up going towards auto-digestion.

Some of these particular cells are responsible for the production of mucus, which mucus has the function of protecting the walls of the stomach from the attack of the gastric juices. In particular moments and for the same reasons as varied as for example, incorrect food supply or lifestyle or even anxiety and stress, this layer of mucus thins in some points or even disappear and at this point the acids produced by the stomach stimulate the nerve endings underlying, feeling the typical pain associated with heartburn. The more the gastric juices go back along the esophagus the greater the pain because the esophagus has no protective mucous layers.

As we have already said the food supply is one of the first things to be corrected, understand what foods do well and what don’t, but in addition to this there are natural remedies that can help us.

NATURAL REMEDIES AGAINST HEARTBURN

In nature there are numerous plants from the beneficial action to help reduce heartburn but also in this case it is necessary that we understand first the origin and what triggers.

If the heartburn occurs occasionally or following a hearty meal then a glass of bicarbonate with the addition of a few drops of lemon juice is already sufficient to balance the gastric acidity which was formed.

The bicarbonate/baking soda has an alkaline action that balances the acidity present in the stomach;

The acid of the lemon instead reacting with the bicarbonate ion forms carbon dioxide that helps the eructation (burp) eliminating all the air present in the stomach and facilitating the gastric emptying.

But there are also several infusions based on plants that we can prepare :

  • FENNEL: the infusion of fennel seeds or fennel has eupeptiche and carminative properties. It is suitable for all ages, especially when you feel the need to help a little the digestion. The fennel facilitates gastric emptying and favours at the same time the elimination of intestinal gases that slow down the whole digestive process and cause annoying abdominal tension/pain;
  • MALLOW AND CAMOMILE: Mallow has emollient and protective properties towards all the mucous membranes due to the presence of mucilage that have the ability to restore the normal consistency of the gastric mucus. Camomile instead has a soothing action and is particularly suited for those situations where the heartburn is associated to pain; together they are a real health aid for our organism.
  • ALMONDS: almonds, especially the bitter ones, relieve the gastric disorders related to slow digestion. Almonds contain small amounts of hydrocyanic acid and a wide range of cyanogenic glycosides that facilitate digestion by stimulating the production of gastric fluid.
  • ALOE VERA: The Aloe is a plant that is well known for its lenitive and calming properties. The gel of aloe is in fact particularly indicated for healing from burns, to regenerate the skin in case of lesions of various types. The aloe juice, relieves heartburn but be careful because it is a laxative.
  • GINGER: Ginger is famous because it is an anti-acid and anti-inflammatory that helps neutralize the acidity of the stomach by giving immediate relief to the gastric mucosa.
