Gastric pain has different meanings, according to its location, its characteristics & the time or circumstances in which it appears & disappears.

Location

The could be upper subcoastal, right or left subcoastal close or slightly above the belly & eventually dorsal. The actual pain location can be seen through a fluoroscopic (x-ray) exam.

Characteristics

Characteristics of gastric pain could be manifested through the following symptoms: Feeling full (no correct digestion) even after a long period of time, stomach burns causing fellings like: cramps, twisting (drilling feeling), stabbing, getting cut in half also sometimes making us feel as if we are going to faint.  All these pains can be reduced by following a correct diet & specific mealplans.

Time

The last characteristic of gastric pain is at what time it presents itself:  right after eating, before, or about 3 or 4 hours later.  It is also necessary to know whether this pain is periodical, for example constant for 10 – 15 days, 1 month or more, & than calm down or disappear alone.  This way we could see if the pain is caused by gallbladder or gastric pain.  Sometimes reducing the size of meals & avoiding foods that might irritate gastric mucosa such as junk food, turns out to be very helpful.
