Bicarbonate or Baking soda and 3 different uses.
What is bicarbonate and how can we use it at home in 3 different ways for home, body and laundry hygiene.
Bicarbonate is an ingredient that is very useful at home both for personal and house hygiene it can also be used instead of yeast in some sweets. Sodium bicarbonate , this is the full name, and it also has different properties.
Bicarbonate and personal hygiene
Bicarbonate is really very useful for our body and also for our wellbeing infact we can:
– Add it to the bath water and take a relaxing bath, it relieves stress and anxiety. Adding half a cup of bicarbonate to the water helps us obtain a soft and velvety skin.
– Add it to the foot bath to relax legs and remove swelling.
– Remove dead skin from the feet by adding it to the pedicure.
Bicarbonate is also excellent against dermatitis, hence you can add it to the shampoo in order to counteract and soothe the skin irritation infact our grandmothers already used to use it as a remedy for preparing FUMIGATIONS for freeing the nose and heal from colds. (just add a spoonful of sodium bicarbonate in a pot of boiling water, breath the vapors through your nose and keep your head under a towel to prevent them from dispersing too quickly. 10 minutes are sufficient in order to start feeling immediately better).
Bicarbonate is also useful for treating diseases from cold and sore throat, making gargles and having antiseptic properties, you can prepare a homemade mouthwash to maintain fresh breath or if added to toothpaste it has a whitening effect on teeth.
BICARBONATE AND LAUNDRY
This is also a remedy our grandmothers used to do to wash the laundry by hand, but nowadays we can easily use it in the washing machine and infact by adding add a spoonful of sodium bicarbonate to the liquid detergent, boosts the action. Moreover it neutralizes odors, by removing the most persistent ones, especially in synthetic fibers. However it should not be used with wool or silk since they can be ruined. It is also ideal as a limescale remover for the washing machine, if used at least once a month, with an empty washing cycle, by pouring half cup of bicarbonate in the basin of the detergent.
Bicarbonate for cleaning the house
The house cleaning one is definitely the most common one used to cleanse very delicate materials and therefore avoid damaging them. It can also be used to degrease, disinfect and polish. You just have to mix the bicarbonate, in a cup of water, until obtaining a creamy mixture. If you also add lemon, then you get even shinier surfaces, especially if they are made of aluminum.
Our grandmothers also added a little bit of vinegar to make limescale disappear.
Bicarbonate can also be used to clean carpets and sofas, radiators and curtains, mattresses and pillows, remove molds and fungi. It is also very effective for cleaning thoroughly glass and mirrors, without leaving marks or scratches.
