Dark Chocolate is good for your health and diet!

Chocolate or no chocolate? Can we can eat chocolate even if we are on a diet?

Well yes in a new study on chocolate carried out by researchers from the Brown University in Providence, in the United States has shown that the dark chocolate is good for the heart and also lowers cholesterol. Scholars have done a comparative analysis on 19 researches conducted internally, taking into consideration all the data of researches already carried out that have clearly emerged that dark chocolate especially thanks to the flavonoids contained, decreases the inflammation of the arteries.

Of course there is a so-called right dose that is between 200 and 600 milligrams per day of flavonoids of cocoa. The flavonoids have an antioxidant effect counteracting the action of free radicals, and you can find them in greater quantity in cocoa and hence in dark chocolate (the larger the cocoa percentage the more flavonoids contained), in doses of 170 mg per 100 g of product.

But why dark chocolate?

Of course it must be chocolate of excellent quality, with a high percentage of cocoa and very little sugar, which also gives proteins, lipids, carbohydrates, minerals and vitamins and it is for this reason that you must always choose the dark chocolate which when consumed in small doses (not more than 4 squares from a bar per day), never on its own and never on an empty stomach (otherwise it raises the blood glucose levels), dark chocolate gives us the right boost and helps maintain our metabolism high all day.

Chocolate is good for the heart and brain

Chocolate is not only an energizing food, but thanks to its active ingredients it is also good for the heart, bllod circulation and brain, it helps fight stagnation, flaccidity and nervous hunger. Amongst its active principles we also find caffeine, tyramine, theobromine, serotonin and phenylethylamine. In particular however the theobromine, is useful for the heart because it stimulates the vasodilation of the coronary arteries and has a diuretic action; the serotonin, instead by freeing endorphins, is able to improve the mood and is useful in moments of sadness and in during premenstrual syndrome.

How to choose a good chocolate.

A good chocolate should be bitter and with at least 45 % cocoa.
Prepared with organic cocoa powder (up to 70%), cocoa butter (about 20%) and unrefined sugar. Moreover on the label, there should be no additives, flavorings nor added fats. The chocolate that is richer in flavonoids is the extra bitter one that contains between 70-80% cocoa and contains more fiber than milkchocolate, and has less fat. We must also remember that in the various poor quality chocolates flavors and additives are added and, instead of cocoa butter, fat substances of dubious origin.
