What are allergies & how do we cure them!

Seasonal ailments & other can not only make life difficult with burns, redness, itches & running nose, lets therefore try to find out how they occur & how can we cure their symptoms.

ALLERGY CAUSES

Allergies are atopic diseases characterised by the presence of a particular class of specific antibodies (IgE).  By atopic we mean by the hereditary reaction towards immediate hypersensitivity from IgE antibodies.

Allergy is hence caused by excessive exposure of our immune system to substances known as allergens.  The allergens are substances provided with an antigen power, that is able to cause our organism to an immediate reaction, causing the production of antibodies.

These so called “allergens” can cause an allergic reaction entering our organism in various ways amongst which:

  •  Breathing (dust & pollen),
  •  Eating (food)
  •  topically (through contact)
  •  injected (sting)

The most diffused natural allergens are:

  • pollen
  • insect poison,
  • dust mites,
  • moulds
  • certain foods (the most common are broad beans, peanuts, strawberries ecc)
  • certain medicines

How do we diagnose an allergy?  Apart from being aware of the problems encountered for example after eating a certain food or being stung by an insect, there are specific tests for diagnosing various forms of allergies & the most common type of test is the prick test on the skin.  Through this test our skin gets in contact with various allergens, through little cuts and were a reaction occurs such as swelling or itching or patches, than an allergy to that particular type of allergen is manifested.

There are also other types of tests, that change according to the type of allergy that must be diagnosed for example the RAST TEST that looks directly for the IgE antibodies in our blood & the patch test, commonly used to diagnose allergic dermatitis caused by contact.

CURES AND REMEDIES

According to the type of allergy we find different types of cures starting right from food & diet which play a fundamental role, infact their are many food intollerances and allergies.
the most common food allergies are those from: milk, eggs, seafood, shellfish, nuts, wheat, soy & choclate, there are also combined or crossed allergies, meaning that somebody allergic to pollen can also be allergic to a certain food like for example apples can be dangerous to whom is allergic to birch, whilst melon could be dangerous to whom is allergic to grasses.  We must therefore learn about these relations & avoid as much as possible the linked foods.  We have also various natural remedies which thanks to phytotherapy gives us the so called adaptogens, elements able to increase our organism’s resistance & adaptability towards any type of stressing agent or any type of unfavourable condition.  Acting on cells & to the symptoms that could have caused imbalances.  Amongst these we should remember:

  • ginkgo,
  • rhodiola,
  • guarana,
  • eleutherococcus.

Even Bach flowers can be of good aid, harmonizing & balancing the irritating, emotional & anxious aspect that usually accompanies allergic reactions.

In particular:

-Beech:  Acts on the emotional aspects of the allergies & intollerances.
-Chicory:  Indicated in allergic syndromes linked to bronchial asthma.

Obviously sedentarity is a healthy life’s enemy & also in the case of allergies it does not help at all, therefore sports is necessary, it is also recommended to people who have respiratory problems due to allergies; better choose disciplines that require a constant effort such as swimming or walking that require resistence & increase breathing.

Yoga is also indicated, especially all the breathing exercises that help improve our lung capability, and also all the exercises that help our organism be more flexible.
