What causes pain? How can these foods reduce it?  these last years have registered a huge increase in requests for pain-killers to relieve pain thought to be curable only by specific medicinals.  Most of these cases were actually the consequences of  certain lifestyles, for example excessive eating & inactivity which lead to pain in joints & muscles & also to painful digestion.  Inflammation aims & hits the pain recptors burning them &  obviously causing pain.  Below is list of food which according to research is ideal for relieving pain, because of  the nutrients contained, they help reduce inflammation & suffering, but it is always advisable to consult your physician who can indicate the best solution & help you relieve your pain.

A particular group of crops called Solanaceae (night shades) could cause great pain when consumed, especially in who suffers from gout or osteoarthritis.  Solanaceae (night shades) consist of; tomatoes, potatoes (not sweet potatoes or yam), aubergines & pepper.

Cherries

Cherries are loaded with taste & wellness & have a pain relieving effect similar to the one found in aspirin.  A recent study published by the Journal of the International society of Sports Nutrition discovered that drinking black cherry juice before running a long distance can reduce the muscle pain caused after the run.  Other studies also talk about the pain relieving benefits in joints.

Ginger

Ginger contains powerful anti-oxidants such as: Shogaol, zingerone & gingerol, all being efficient anti-inflammatories. According to some studies published on the Journal of pain it was shown that those who took half a teaspoon of ginger (raw or cooked) for 11 days before doing any type of physical activity felt a reduction in the muscle pain within 24 hours, when compared to others who did not consume ginger.

Chili peppers

How could it be that chili peppers which cause pain on our tongue & mucous membranes just through contact could be useful in relieving pain on other parts of our body?  Well yes, just to start off with, chili peppers are very rich in vitamin C which helps in repairing damaged tissue & relieving the caused.  This solanaceae contains an abbundance of  inflammation reducing phytochemicals such as; flavonoids & capsaicinoids including capsaicin.  Capsaicin is frequently found in pain relieving medications used for external use, but what about its efficiency when used internally?  A  study held out of 30 patients affected by chronic dyspepsia (indigestion) showed that those who consumed at least 2.5g (half a teaspoon) of chili pepper daily for 5 weeks, reduced stomach pain, nausea, & swelling (feeling bloated & full) by about 60% when compared to others who did not consume any chili peppers.

Salmon

At this point you should know that Salmon is one of the best omega 3 sources amongst fish.  Its quantity of omega 3 & vitamin D were shown to be sufficient for helping prevent arthritis & joint pain.  Omega 3 help reduce the production of cytokines & other inflammatory enzymes which cause pain in joints & muscles.  Clinical studies have shown that Omega 3 fats found in food such as salmon help relieve pain associated to Arthritis, dysmennorrhoea (menstrual pains), neuropathies & inflamed bowel.

Turmeric

Turmeric contains iron, manganese, potassium & vitmin B6 & C; the only problem is that to note its nutrient benefits we must consume it in very large quantities.  But like many herbs & spices its phytonutrients are very important: turmeric is infact very rich in curcumin, which relieves pain & inflammation especially after surgery & also reduces the feelin of prostration.
